Job Summary
World Vision Ethiopia is seeking a qualified and experienced Field Security Coordinator to support the safety and security operations of staff, assets, and humanitarian programs in Mekelle and surrounding operational areas. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining a secure working environment by conducting security risk assessments, monitoring field conditions, coordinating emergency responses, and ensuring compliance with organizational security policies and procedures.
The Field Security Coordinator will work closely with program teams, local authorities, and partner organizations to strengthen operational safety and ensure continuity of humanitarian activities in complex and high-risk environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular security risk assessments and provide timely updates on security situations affecting field operations.
- Develop and implement security management plans, evacuation procedures, and contingency measures.
- Monitor local developments, conflict trends, and safety incidents to support informed operational decisions.
- Coordinate emergency response actions during security incidents, crises, or natural disasters.
- Provide security briefings, awareness sessions, and safety training for staff and visitors.
- Ensure compliance with organizational security standards, travel protocols, and communication procedures.
- Liaise with government security offices, UN agencies, NGOs, and community stakeholders on security-related matters.
- Maintain incident reports, security documentation, and operational risk records.
- Support field missions by advising teams on route planning, movement tracking, and safe travel procedures.
- Promote a culture of safety, preparedness, and accountability across all field operations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Security Management, Police Science, Law Enforcement, International Relations, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant security experience within NGOs, UN agencies, humanitarian organizations, or conflict-affected settings.
- Strong knowledge of risk management, crisis response, and humanitarian security operations.
- Experience conducting security assessments and developing mitigation strategies.
- Excellent communication, coordination, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and respond effectively in emergency situations.
- HEAT (Hostile Environment Awareness Training) and First Aid certification are advantageous.
- Valid passport and driving license required.
