Job Summary

The International Trade Centre (ITC) is seeking an International Technical Consultant on ESG & Value Chain Due Diligence to support MSMEs and cooperatives in Ethiopia, Ghana, Uganda, Honduras, and other countries. The consultant will conduct ESG and human rights due diligence assessments, develop action plans and training materials, and deliver capacity-building sessions—both remotely and in-country. This fully remote, 12-month UN consultancy requires a master’s degree in law, human rights, development, or a related field; proven experience in ESG, agri-business, or rural development; project management background; and fluency in English and Spanish. Training experience is a strong advantage

  Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct ESG and human rights due diligence assessments for MSMEs and cooperatives, primarily in Ethiopia, Ghana, Uganda, Honduras, and other target countries.
  • · Develop practical action plans and training materials tailored to local contexts, enabling businesses to improve ESG performance.
  • · Deliver virtual and in-person training, coaching, and capacity-building sessions for business owners, cooperative leaders, and local advisors.
  • · Provide technical advice on aligning value chain operations with international frameworks (e.g., UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, OECD Due Diligence Guidance).
  • · Support monitoring and reporting on ESG compliance and impact indicators.
  • · Collaborate with ITC teams, donor partners, and local stakeholders to ensure alignment with project goals.

Required Qualifications

  • · Master’s degree in law, human rights, international development, economics, sustainability, or a related field.
  • · Demonstrated experience in ESG, sustainability standards, agri-business, rural development, or human rights due diligence.
  • · Strong background in project management and working with donor-funded or international organizations (UN, EU, World Bank, etc.).
  • · Fluency in English and Spanish (written and spoken).
  • · Proven ability to design and deliver training and capacity-building programs (training experience is a strong advantage).

Required Skills 

  • · ESG & Sustainability Expertise – Strong knowledge of Environmental, Social, and Governance frameworks and due diligence principles.
  • · Human Rights Due Diligence – Familiarity with UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, OECD Guidelines.
  • · Value Chain Analysis – Ability to assess agricultural or agri-business value chains (e.g., coffee, cocoa, horticulture).
  • · Project Management – Experience planning, executing, and monitoring donor-funded or international organization projects.
  • · Training & Facilitation – Designing and delivering capacity-building programs for MSMEs, cooperatives, or local stakeholders.
  • · Assessment & Reporting – Conducting ESG audits, developing action plans, and writing technical reports.
  • · Cross-Cultural Communication – Working effectively with diverse teams and beneficiaries across Africa and Latin America.
  • · Languages – Fluency in English and Spanish
