Job Summary 

The WASH Officer will be responsible for planning, designing, and implementing Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) interventions in targeted districts. The role focuses on improving access to safe water, sanitation facilities, and promoting hygiene practices within communities. The officer will work closely with local stakeholders, government institutions, and WASH clusters to ensure effective and sustainable project delivery aligned with organizational and donor standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, design, and implementation of WASH projects in assigned operational areas.
  • Oversee the construction and rehabilitation of water supply systems and sanitation facilities.
  • Ensure quality control and technical supervision of WASH infrastructure development.
  • Promote hygiene awareness and behavior change through community engagement activities.
  • Coordinate with local authorities, communities, NGOs, and WASH cluster partners to strengthen collaboration and avoid duplication of efforts.
  • Conduct regular field assessments and needs analyses to inform program design and improvements.
  • Monitor project progress and ensure activities are implemented according to plans, timelines, and budgets.
  • Prepare and submit timely reports, including progress updates, evaluations, and documentation.
  • Support capacity building of community groups and local partners on WASH practices and maintenance systems.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, donor requirements, and humanitarian standards.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in WASH, Environmental Health, Public Health, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in WASH programs, preferably within NGOs or UN agencies.
  • Proven experience in project management, construction supervision, and community-based programming.
  • Strong understanding of WASH standards, guidelines, and humanitarian principles.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work in multicultural environments.
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken) is required.
  • Knowledge of GIS, AutoCAD, or related technical tools is considered an advantage.
  • Ability to work in remote and challenging environments with minimal supervision.
