Job Summary
UNICEF is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Social Policy Intern to support its Social Policy Programme in Ethiopia. The internship offers an excellent opportunity for students and recent graduates to gain practical experience in social protection, public policy, research, programme monitoring, and data analysis within a leading United Nations agency. The intern will work closely with policy specialists and programme teams to contribute to evidence-based policy development aimed at improving the lives of children and vulnerable populations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in collecting, organizing, and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data related to social protection and poverty reduction programs.
- Support research activities, literature reviews, policy briefs, and technical reports.
- Contribute to programme monitoring, evaluation, and performance tracking activities.
- Assist in preparing presentations, meeting notes, and stakeholder communication materials.
- Support coordination with government institutions, development partners, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
- Help maintain databases and information management systems.
- Participate in policy discussions and contribute to evidence-based recommendations.
- Support the documentation of project results, lessons learned, and best practices.
- Assist in organizing workshops, consultations, and capacity-building events.
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in:Economics,Public Policy,Social Sciences,Development Studies,Statistics,International Relations and Related fields
- Strong academic performance and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to analyze data and prepare professional reports.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of social protection and cash transfer programs.
- Experience with research methodologies and data analysis tools.
- Familiarity with programme monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
- Understanding of development and humanitarian programming.
- Knowledge of statistical software such as SPSS, Stata, R, or Power BI is an advantage.
