# Project Pharmacy Manager is responsible for overseeing all pharmaceutical activities within the project, ensuring the availability, quality, and rational use of medicines and medical supplies. The role involves managing drug procurement, storage, distribution, and stock control in accordance with MSF protocols and international standards. The manager supervises pharmacy staff, provides technical guidance, and ensures compliance with national regulations and MSF policies.
Additionally, the position requires close collaboration with medical and logistics teams to forecast needs, prevent stock shortages, and support effective healthcare delivery. The Project Pharmacy Manager also contributes to training health staff on proper drug use and pharmacovigilance practices. Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills are essential. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work in challenging environments and adapt to emergency contexts while maintaining high standards of pharmaceutical care.
Key Responsibilities and duties
- Ensure effective management of all pharmaceutical activities, including procurement, storage, distribution, and stock control of medicines and medical supplies.
- Monitor drug quality, expiry dates, and storage conditions in line with MSF standards and national regulations.
- Forecast medication needs and coordinate timely ordering to prevent stock-outs or overstocking.
- Supervise, train, and support pharmacy staff to ensure proper dispensing practices and adherence to protocols.
- Collaborate closely with medical and logistics teams to support program implementation and patient care.
- Maintain accurate records and reporting systems for stock, consumption, and pharmaceutical activities.
- Ensure rational use of medicines and promote pharmacovigilance practices within the project.
- Implement infection prevention and control measures related to pharmaceutical services.
- Participate in project planning, evaluation, and continuous improvement of pharmacy services.
- Ensure compliance with MSF policies, donor requirements, and local health authority regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (B.Pharm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) from a recognized institution.
- Valid professional license/registration to practice pharmacy in the relevant country.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience, preferably in hospital, public health, or NGO settings.
- Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical supply chain management, including procurement, storage, and distribution.
- Familiarity with international treatment guidelines and essential medicines lists.
- Experience in emergency or humanitarian settings is an added advantage.
- Good leadership and team management skills with the ability to supervise and train staff.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in computer applications (MS Office and stock management systems).
- Excellent communication skills, with good command of English; knowledge of local languages is a plus.
Experience
- Minimum of 2–5 years of professional experience in pharmacy practice, preferably in hospital, clinical, or public health settings.
- Proven experience in pharmaceutical supply chain management, including procurement, storage, inventory control, and distribution of medicines.
- Previous experience working with NGOs or humanitarian organizations is highly desirable.
- Experience in emergency or low-resource settings is an added advantage.
- Demonstrated experience in supervising and managing teams, including training and capacity building of staff.
- Hands-on experience with stock management systems and reporting .
Familiarity with international treatment protocols and essential medicines lists. - Experience in quality assurance and pharmacovigilance practices is preferred.
Ability to work in multicultural and multidisciplinary environments with strong teamwork skills.
